Shemar Moore once revealed the struggles of growing up biracial, with many people often asking him why his skin color is the way it is.
by Monica Otayza for AmoMama.com
The “Criminal Minds” actor opened up about what it was like growing up as a biracial kid in Oakland, and how this affected his chances of ever being in a relationship. Despite the challenges, he made sure to rise above them and pursue his Hollywood dreams.
Growing up, he had to move from country to country. He first lived in Denmark, before moving to Bahrain, and then to Ghana. Ultimately, he moved back to America and grew up in the country. It was in America that he had his first encounter with racism.
When he was only six-years-old, Moore shared that everyone tried to make him feel different in school. It turns out, it was all because of his appearance.
“Why does your hair look like that, why is your skin that color, how come your mom is white, how can you be cousins with so-and-so. That’s how I learned I was good at baseball, because kids would chance me after school.”
Although Shemar wanted to become a professional baseball player, his dreams were cut short after he got injured while playing in college. That was when he decided to pursue a career in Hollywood despite his family going against this decision.
When the time is right, however, he’d like to settle down and get married only once.
After more than two decades, Shemar is now a staple in Hollywood television. While he would like to settle down and get married one day, he would like to be settled down and secured by then.
“It’s no accident that I’m not married and don’t have kids yet. Because despite what I’ve achieved in my career, I’m always wondering when somebody’s gonna tap me on the shoulder and say, ‘Okay, the gig is up.'”
To him, the scenario of him having to let his family go through the uncertainty of his career possibly ending is something he doesn’t want to do. When the time is right, however, he’d like to settle down and get married only once.
Recently, Shemar Moore showed off his new “salt and pepper” look while remaining in quarantine. His fans swooned over his new look, saying he looks better than ever despite having to go through the heartbreaking experience of losing his mom.
At 50 years old, Moore does not look his age at all. Besides his youthful face, he is also in incredible shape, and that’s something his fans admire about him.
